In a move that added some depth to the team’s frontcourt, the New York Knicks signed Michael Beasley to a one-year deal worth just over $2.1 million. A veteran player entering his 10th season, Beasley has made his way around the NBA since being drafted as the No. 2 overall draft pick in 2008.

Over the course of his career, the 6-foot-9, 235-pound power forward has played for Miami, Minnesota, Phoenix, Houston, and Milwaukee. Despite his frequent moves around the league, Beasley maintains decent career averages of 12.6 points and 4.7 rebounds a game. Last season with the Milwaukee Bucks, he averaged 9.4 points in just under 17 minutes per game.

The annual three-day, 40-round Major League Baseball Amateur Draft presents franchises with an opportunity to replenish their minor league systems and find promising players for the future. The Red Sox held the 24th overall pick in the 2017 draft and selected six-foot-five, 220-pound, right-handed pitcher Tanner Houck.

Through three seasons with the University of Missouri, Houck compiled an earned run average (ERA) of 3.26 and recorded 292 strikeouts in 301 innings. He was signed to a contract on June 21 and began his first professional season with the Lowell Spinners of the New York-Penn League, where he has a 3.48 ERA and has struck out 12 batters through 10.1 innings.

Williams spent four seasons at Brigham Young University and recorded 35 rushing touchdowns and 3,901 rushing yards. Jones scored 33 touchdowns in four seasons with UTEP, while Mays recorded 12 in two seasons with Utah State. Yancey, meanwhile, was selected 175th overall with a pick the Packers received from the Broncos in a trade. The 6-foot-2, 205-pound receiver caught 20 touchdown passes in four years at Purdue and recorded 2,344 receiving yards. Finally, Dupre, the fourth-to-last pick in the draft, recorded 14 touchdowns and 1,609 receiving yards in three seasons with LSU.
